See Azaleas again in City Xuan

Author: Bai Li(AD701-AD762, Tang Dynasty)

Translator: Lei Fan 2016 in Chicago

I used to hear cuckoo singing in Shu,

Now in City Xuan, I see azaleas again.

Every tweet breaks my heart to hear,

Every spring I feel wistful to go home.

[NOTE]Cuckoo and Azaleas share the same pronunciation in Chinese – ‘Du Juan’, that is how the poet related the two things.

宣城见杜鹃花
蜀国曾闻子规鸟,宣城还见杜鹃花。
一叫一回肠一断,三春三月忆三巴。
