Song of the Resting Crows

Author: Bai Li(AD701-AD762, Tang Dynasty)

Translator: Lei Fan 2017 in Chicago

On Terrace of Gusu, sunset is close, crows are about to rest,

Inside Palace of Emperor Wu, beautiful Shi Xi is still inebriating.

Songs from Wu, Dances from Chu, the revelry has not yet stopped,

Although the distant mountain is about to shelter half of the sun.

Night passes with water accumulating from the gold jargon,

What slowly sinking into the cold water is the moonlight of autumn.

My highness, why still continue the banquet, when the sun is about to rise?

乌栖曲
姑苏台上乌栖时,吴王宫里醉西施。
吴歌楚舞欢未毕,青山欲衔半边日。
银箭金壶漏水多,起看秋月坠江波。
东方渐高奈乐何!
